NetPM Best Practices

NetPM Best Practices

While setting up or using NetPM, please take note of the below best practices:

Setup Do’s and Don’ts:
  • DO Perform DXM “Full Installation” on your dedicated NetPM Server
  • DO Perform DXM Installation “Application Files and MongoDB Setup Only” at each ETAP Workstation intending to sync changes through NetPM
  • DO NOT manually relocate the manager’s Primary Project once it has been registered and uploaded to NetPM.
  • DO NOT overwrite the manager’s Primary Project either manually or with any other client download.
  • DO NOT access and operate the manager’s Primary Project from a different PC than what was originally used to register/upload the project to NetPM.
  • DO NOT access and operate a locally saved Client Project from a different PC than what was originally used to download that Client Project

For Specific Workflow Scenarios:

A. Simultaneous Teamwork – Fully Automatic Synchronization
  1. Keep Manager’s Primary Project open to allow continuous synchronization
  2. Keep all upload and download queues for both Manager and Client set to Auto
  3. Define non-overlapping areas of work between team members.
  4. Periodically have Manager re-upload the primary project to improve synchronization and recovery performance
  5. Once teamwork is complete, have the Manager unregister the project to mitigate unintended subsequent synchronization
B. Asynchronous Teamwork – Manager Driven On-Demand Synchronization
  1. Set Manager’s Download queue to On-Demand
  2. Set Manager’s Upload queue to Auto
  3. Set Client Download queues to Auto
  4. Set Client Upload queues to On-Demand
  5. Have client team members periodically submit their changes in bulk from their Upload queue (daily, weekly, etc.)
  6. Ensure Manager is regularly reviewing and processing changes from their NetPM Download queue
  7. ALWAYS process synchronization messages in the order that they were generated/proposed. Skipping messages or processing them out-of-sequence can make the projects out-of-sync.
  8. Periodically have Manager re-upload the primary project to improve synchronization and recovery performance
  9. Once teamwork is complete, have the Manager unregister the project to mitigate unintended subsequent synchronization
